Rehabs are intended to be places where a person who has been addicted can leave addiction behind and begin a new drug free life. Unfortunately, many rehabs only have a success rate of 10%. This means that a person in most of these rehabs has a one in ten chance of success. Goverment websites such as the one for the National Institute on Drug Abuse state that "relapse is part of the recovery." Not every rehab agrees with this datum. Some rehabs work hard and holistically to purify a person's body of toxic remnants of drug use so that they have a chance to feel alive again. Empirical information on this body purification step shows that it helps reduce or eliminate cravings for an addict, an essential part of recovery. If cravings are reduced or eliminated, an addict has a chance to address the personal issues that may have led him or her into drug use in the first place. Understand the rehab program you are looking at, ask the staff about the parts of the program and how the cravings, guilt and depression experiences by every addict are addressed as part of the program. If they don't have an answer outside of further medication, then realize that these points that keep an addict trapped in addiction will not be handled and can re-occur at any time, sinking the addict's chance of success. Hence, the 10% success rate. | ||||||
