IF YOU ARE A PARENT OF A TEEN ARE YOU A "PASSIVE PUSHER?"

If you are a parent of a teenager(s), I strongly suggest you read this year's "Back-To-School-Survey", sponsored by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, (CASA) at Columbia University (http://www.casacolumbia.org/).

This survey sends a pretty strong message to parents of teens to wake up and smell the coffee in regard to your children and their chances of becommig drug abusers in school. It will hopefully help you realize that the probability of your kids becoming part of the next generation of drug addicts and alcholics is now more likely then ever before unless something is done about it now.

The National Center on Addiciton and Substance by way of this survey has discovered a new type of drug pusher that is rapidly becomming one of the most popular sources of drugs for teenagers to abuse.   Unlike the pusher on the street whose product is often impure and filled with dangerous toxic additives and agents, the drugs this new pusher is promoting are pharmacuetical, approved by the Federal Drug Administration and are normally obtained by prescription only.  This new drug dealer has come to be known as the "Passive Pusher."  So who is the "Passive Pusher"?

Over 1/3rd of the teenagers, (12 yrs -17yrs.),surveyed said that they abused prescription drugs that they got from their parrents medicine cabinet.  Another one third of the students surveyed who abused prescription drugs said they got these pharmacueticals from other friends at school.  If the 1/3rd of kids using meds got them from their parents medicine cabinet, it doesn't take rocket science to figure out where the 1/3rd of the students who were selling prescription drugs to the other kids are getting them from.  That means that over 1/2 the teenagers surveyed abusing prescription drugs were getting them directly or indirectly from mom and dad's medicine cabinet.

So  who is the "Passive Pusher?"  Well if you are a parent of a teenager and you have prescriptions for addictive drugs like oxycotin, anti-depressants, sleeping pills or tranquilizers and you do not keep them in a locked and secured cabinet that your kids cannot access, the Passive Pusher is you.

So to all the Passive Pushers out there,  for god sakes, if you can't or won't find a workable natural alternative to deal with your pain, mood swings or inability to sleep at least care enough for your kids to keep your meds locked up and try not to promote the fact that your on these drugs to your kids.   If your a parent of a teenager and you have addictive prescription drugs that you are hooked on and can't get off them...get help and get clean. The best way for parents to influence thier kids in a positive manner is by example.  The kids of tomorrow already have a lot of messes to clean that we older generation folks have created...witness today's economic problems, social security's uncertain future and a long list of other social problems.  We baby boomers, our adult kids and thier adult kids don't need to add the fascilitation of drugging our teens to our legacy.   Our kids need to be sharp and playing with a full deck of cards so as they move into the postion of influence as they become adults they can create and implement the solutions that we so desperately need to these critical social problems .  Helping them to become dependent on prescription drugs will not help them become the competent future problem solvers and leaders our country will need to preserve our Amercian freedom and values for the generations to come.
